Yuezhi Zhao, professor and Canada Research Chair at the School of Communication, and Zuo-Guang Ye, professor and chair of the department of chemistry, have each won a prestigious Chang-Jiang Scholar Award from the People’s Republic of China, Ministry of Education.

One of the Chinese government’s highest academic honours, the Chang-Jiang (the Chinese name for Yangtze River) Scholars Program aims to rapidly improve the research quality at Chinese universities by strengthening ties with scholars around the world.

Ye’s three-year appointment is with Xi’an Jiaotong University, while Zhao’s appointment is with the Communication University of China in Beijing. Both professors will continue their normal duties at SFU while making occasional visits to their host universities where they will pursue collaborative research with their Chinese counterparts, offer lectures and co-supervise joint graduate students.
