Many commuters to SFU’s Burnaby campus dread the news of a snowstorm on Burnaby Mountain – but not Tanya Behrisch.

While the rest of the herd slogs along by foot through the wet white stuff, the effervescent SFU Business co-op coordinator happily sails from one end of campus to the other on her cross-country skis.

“I’m like a baby – I love the snow,” says Behrisch, who began bringing her skis to work four winters ago. The latest blizzard provided so much perfect dry powder she was able to ski from her car in C Lot all the way to West Mall Centre without stopping.

Her only complaint: “Facilities management has been so effective at clearing the roads and sidewalks I have to work a little harder to find fresh snow.”

During her breaks Behrisch loves nothing more than swooshing over to the trailhead at Cardiac Hill and snowplowing her way down to Horizons Restaurant.

“It’s absolutely gorgeous and it’s my little secret,” she says. “I usually have the trail all to myself.”

I too enjoy a good x-c ski (and loath driving to Mt. Seymour to pay $20 to use their trails)... how about publishing the whereabouts of these trails so that more may enjoy them?
