There may be others, but an informal survey by SFU News turned up nine community members running in the Nov. 15 elections, including two students running against each other.
- Business administration student Darryl Stickler and applied science student Andy Chen are vying to be Coquitlam city councillors.
- Library staffer Sylvia Richardson is running for Port Moody city council.
- Molecular biology and biochemistry researcher Matthew Laird is in the race for New Westminster council.
- Political science student Richard Vickery is a candidate for the City of North Vancouver.
- Professor emeritus Hal Weinberg is looking to continue his 15-year run as mayor of Anmore while political science student Andrew Robertson is running for council.
- John-Henry Harter, who teaches in SFU’s Centre for Labour Studies, seeks re-election to the Chilliwack school board.
- Michael Brydon, assistant professor in SFU Business, is seeking election as an Area F (West Bench/Faulder) director of the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen.
