The Undergraduate Semester in Dialogue is an intensive learning program that uses dialogue to focus on a single theme—and this semester it’s energy. The 20 students selected for the popular program will study two trends affecting our planet and our future: declining oil supplies and climate change due to excessive carbon emissions. Topics will include future viable carbon- and non-carbon based energy alternatives in the face of oil shortages and ways to adapt to current and future levels of global warming. The energy theme "emerged from a visit I made a few years ago to the tar sands of Alberta", says program director Mark Winston, "when I was hit powerfully with the understanding of how critical energy issues will be for our future."
