Getting set for winter: SFU ALERTS
October 30, 2008
SFU’s mass notification system, SFU Alerts, is all set to deliver emergency alerts to the 31,064 people on SFU’s e-mail system.
But Steve Ray, who administers SFU Alerts, says it can also notify people via text message on their cell phone, via instant messaging, or by voice message on their home or office phones.
So far, he says, more than half of those on the system have provided their cell phone number to receive a text alert. He’d like to see everyone on the system provide as many alternate ways of receiving the information as they can.
Students can update their information at www.sis.sfu.ca.
Faculty and staff can go to myinfo.sfu.ca.
Says Ray, "We’re hoping that when people receive an alert they’ll then tell others around them, spreading the word as quickly as possible."
