Education prize for Jungic

April 7, 2011

Senior math lecturer Veselin Jungic is this year’s recipient of the PIMS Education prize, awarded by the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences. The award recognizes an individual who has played a major role in encouraging activities that enhance public awareness and appreciation of mathematics.

Jungic’s outreach includes a prominent role in “Taste of Pi”, a PIMS/SFU enrichment program for high school students; co-development of a distance-education version of introductory calculus, and he played a leadership role in developing initiatives to help Aboriginal students, including SFU’s Aboriginal university preparation programs and mentorship programs for Aboriginal students at the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre and the Native Education College.
