Soccer star, coach win awards

SFU women's soccer coach Shelley Howieson and star forward Phebe Trotman have been named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic's (NAIA) coach and player of the year.

The two were also chosen as coach and senior player of the year by the B.C. Soccer Association. Howieson guided the Clan to its second NAIA national championship and has a career record of 172-65-25.

Trotman was a leader for SFU all season and scored one of the biggest goals ever in the fifth overtime of the championship match last fall. Trotman was also named the tournament's most valuable player. The team finished the season with a record of 16-4-1.

Since 1996 Howieson has guided the clan to two national championships and two second place finishes.
