Simon Fraser University Clan senior forward Andrew Corazza has been selected 10th overall by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2006 United Soccer League (USL) draft. Corazza, SFU's male athlete of the year in 2005, was named the region I player of the year after his senior season with the Clan, and is the Clan's all-time goal scorer with 81 goals, and points record holder with 179. “Playing professionally has always been one of my goals,” says Corazza, who is keen to play in his hometown. More than 40 SFU men's soccer players have gone on to play in professional leagues. Former SFU players Steve Kindel and Jeff Clarke are currently playing for the Whitecaps. Corazza's selection came in the same week that construction began on the second artificial turf field as part of a partnership between SFU and the Whitecaps. SFU's field 4 is already artificial turf and was used last semester for practice and SFU home games.
