New faculty appointments for the spring semester.

Brian Coffey
Brian Coffey comes to SFU from Exxon Mobil Upstream Research in Houston, Texas, where he was a senior geologist. He takes up the tenure track position of assistant professor in earth sciences. Coffey holds a BSc in geology from the University of North Carolina and a PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. His research is in the field of petroleum geology.

Jon Kesselman
Jon Kesselman joins SFU as a tier 1 Canada Research Chair in public finance in the masters of public policy program. Most recently a professor of economics at UBC, Kesselman holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Thomas Kuhn
Thomas Kuhn joins the department of history as a tenure track assistant professor. He holds a master of arts degree from the University of Freiburg, a master of studies from Oxford and a PhD from New York University. He will teach middle eastern history.

Jeffrey Pelletier
Jeffrey Pelletier joins SFU as a tier 1 Canada Research Chair in cognitive science, a joint appointment to the philosophy and linguistics departments with an associate appointment in computing science. Most recently a professor of philosophy and computing science at the University of Alberta, Pelletier holds a PhD from University of California, Los Angeles and masters degrees in both computing science and linguistics from the University of Alberta.

Leland Pitt
Leland Pitt takes up a post as professor with tenure in the faculty of business administration. Most recently a professor of marketing at the Curtin University of Technology in Australia, Pitt holds a PhD and MBA from the University of Pretoria and a master of communication from Rhodes University. His research focuses on services marketing, entrepreneurship and marketing strategy.

Joseph Taylor
Joseph Taylor has been hired as a Tier II Canada Research Chair in environmental history, a joint appointment to the departments of history and geography. Most recently an associate history professor in the department of history at Iowa State University, Taylor holds a PhD from the University of Washington.

David Vocadlo
David Vocadlo has been hired as an assistant professor in chemistry. Most recently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, he holds a PhD from the University of B.C. His research focuses on chemical biology, a multidisciplinary field involving chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology.
