During the same period, the number of students requesting financial assistance has almost doubled, from 2,615 applicants per year to 4,895 in the current year. As well, their average financial need has increased from $1,021 a year per student to $1,789.

For 2004-05, in addition to directing an additional $1.3 million from the tuition fee increase toward scholarships and bursaries, there will be a top up to bursary awards of $985,000.

Charlotte French, director of student academic resources, says, “We want to increase the proportion of financial need that we're meeting.”
