Three Burnaby fire department trucks and a hazardous materials team will be speeding up to SFU on May 6 in an emergency response exercise.

It's all part of the events planned for SFU's participation in North American occupational safety and health week May 3-7.

On May 5, from11:30 a.m. -2 p.m., a variety of SFU departments will participate in a safety fair with safety-related displays in convocation mall on the Burnaby campus.

Pick up a safety passport filled with questions, then visit each booth to find the answers. Try out the sobriety goggles at the security booth or take a few potshots in the booth displaying safety glasses. Those who complete the passport questions will receive a coupon for a free hot dog, juice and a bag of chips.

Surrey campus will participate May 3 with safety displays in the main entrance from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. while Harbour Centre campus will hold its displays May 7 in the main foyer from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The May 6 hazardous spill exercise will take place in the chemistry department in the Shrum science building. Organizer Dolf Hengelmolen of SFU's occupational health and safety office says the building will be evacuated.
