Malcolm Kennett
Malcolm Kennett joins the physics department as a tenure track assistant professor from the TMC group at Cambridge University's physics department, where he was a research associate. He holds a PhD from Princeton and masters and bachelors degrees from the University of Sydney. His research interests focus on theoretical condensed matter physics.



Yoonjin Lee
Yoonjin Lee is a tenure track assistant professor in pure and applied mathematics, joining SFU from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she was an assistant professor. She holds a PhD and MSc from Brown University and a MSc from Ewha Women's University in South Korea. Her areas of research include algebraic and computational number theory, cryptology and coding theory.



Geoff Mann
Geoff Mann has been appointed a tenure track assistant professor of geography. Mann joins SFU from the University of California, Santa Barbara where he was also an assistant professor. He holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, an MSc from the University of Guelph and a BA from McGill University. His research examines the relationship between labour and the environment.



Abraham Punnen
Abraham Punnen has been appointed a full professor, with tenure, to lead the mathematics department at SFU Surrey. He comes to SFU from the University of New Brunswick, St. John's campus. He holds a PhD in operations research from the Indian Institute of Technology and a MSc in mathematics from Kanpur University, India.



Michael Schmitt
Michael Schmitt is a tenure track assistant professor in the department of psychology. A Fulbright scholar and PhD graduate from the University of Kansas, he was most recently an assistant professor of psychology at Purdue University, Indiana. His research area is social psychology.



Steven Thompson
Steven Thompson joins the department of statistics and actuarial science as a full professor with tenure and is the new Shrum chair in science. He was previously a professor at Pennsylvania State University. He holds a PhD from Oregon State University. His research pioneered adaptive sampling for sparse populations, such as endangered animals or plants. He is also a fellow of the American Statistical Association.



Anthony Perl
Anthony Perl has been appointed a full professor with tenure in urban studies and political science and is the new director of the Urban Studies program. He joins SFU from the University of Calgary where he was a professor of political science. He holds a PhD in political science and MA in public administration from the University of Toronto, and a bachelor of arts in government from Harvard University. His research centres on environmental and transportation policy.



Olga Volkoff
Olga Volkoff is a new assistant professor of management information systems at SFU business. Most recently an assistant professor at the Worcester Institute of Technology in Massachusetts, Volkoff's research interests include enterprise systems. She worked in industry for 12 years and holds a master of public administration from Queen's University and both an MBA and a PhD in business administration from the Richard Ivey school of business at the University of Western Ontario.
