SFU's ninth chancellor, Brandt Louie, is president and CEO of B.C.'s fourth largest corporation, H.Y. Louie Co. Limited., and chairman and CEO of London Drugs Limited.

Lance Finch, chief justice of the court of appeal of British Columbia, will administer the pledge of office at the Oct. 6 morning ceremony and install Louie as chancellor.

A member of SFU's board of governors for the past five years, Louie was most recently chair of the board of governors. He also chairs SFU's 40th anniversary fundraising campaign, Reaching New Heights.

Born in Vancouver, Louie received his bachelor of commerce from UBC and became a chartered accountant three years later.

He serves on several boards of companies and non-profit organizations, including the Royal Bank of Canada, Canfor, the Duke University medical centre and the Neuroscience Canada Foundation. Louie personally leads London Drugs' charity committee, which oversees the company's corporate contributions to health and wellness organizations, medical research, education and the arts.

As SFU's chancellor, he will serve as chair of convocation, a member of senate and the board of governors and confer all degrees.

The chancellor often represents the university within the larger community and is one of the university's chief ambassadors.

Louie succeeds SFU's chancellor of six years, Milton Wong, who is now chair of the SFU Foundation and in recognition of his outstanding service to SFU, chancellor emeritus.
