Last month, visitors to Beijing's new National Art Museum of China could see Canada through the eyes of Yukman Lai. An adjunct professor at the David See-Chai Lam Centre for International Communication at SFU Vancouver, Lai has 51 large paintings on exhibit at the museum, all depicting Canada's landscapes, trees, wild flowers, animals and birds using traditional Chinese watercolour technique. Beijing is the first stop on a 10-city tour that returns to Vancouver in October 2007 for a concluding exhibition jointly sponsored by SFU and UBC. At a reception launching the tour the artist demonstrated his brush painting skills, sketching snow-covered trees and mountains. The Lam Centre organized the exhibition tour with support from the Canadian government, community groups and individuals.
