The Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) recently reached a mediated, court-endorsed agreement to re-open its bank accounts for day-to-day operations, including payment of salaries, suppliers and contractors. A court now will hear arguments on the validity of a special three-hour general meeting held Oct. 25 that attracted more than 1,000 student society members. The SFSS and its directors have been embroiled in a long and difficult controversy that began with the dismissal of a long-term employee last summer. The controversy led to the impeachment of seven board members. Vancity credit union then froze the society's business accounts until its governance could be validated.
