SFU holiday-break camps keep kids contented

Want to keep the kids happily occupied and active during school break this holiday season? SFU's recreation & athletics department has just the ticket. It's offering several camps and clinics at the Burnaby campus that are sure to entertain the little darlings whether they're into sports or just want to hang with friends and learn some cool new games.

Activities, in the Chancellor's Gym complex, include:

  • SFU Winter recreation camps, Jan. 2-5, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Separate camps for ages 5-7 yrs and 8-12 yrs.
  • Symphony Safari, Jan. 2-5, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. A fun-filled 4-day music camp for children ages 5-10yrs. Early and late supervision is also available for ages 5-12 yrs., from 7:30 - 8:30 am & 3:30 - 5:00 pm.
  • Counsellor-in-training camp, Jan. 2-5, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. A 4-day camp focusing on leadership development for ages 14-17 yrs.
  • Volleyball Winter skills camp, Jan. 2-5, 9:30 am - 12:00 pm. A skill-developing camp for ages 9-16 yrs.
  • Softball clinics with the 3-time NAIA national champion Clan women's team. For ages 13 yrs. and under (Dec. 27 & 28) and 14 yrs. and up (Jan. 2 & 3). Also, pitching & catching advanced skills for all ages (Dec. 29 & 30).
  • And don't forget the SFU women's basketball game-day clinic Jan. 6, when the Clan plays UBC. There's a guard clinic for ages 13-17 yrs. (11am - 12:30pm); an intermediate-advanced shooting clinic for ages 13-17 yrs. (2pm - 3:30pm); and a clinic for players aged 10-12 (4 pm- 6pm). Clinics are run by former Clan player and assistant coach Morgan McLaughlin.
