SFU has a new VP-research. Mario Pinto, chair of SFU's chemistry department since 1999, will fill the spot Sept. 1.

He replaces Bruce Clayman who has held the post since 1993. Pinto joined SFU in 1983, after working at the National Research Council. His pioneering work in medicinal chemistry and drug design have earned him national recognition, including the 2002 Bernard Belleau award and the 2002 B.C. Sugar award. He was also named a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2003.
