Continuing Studies is bringing its successful liberal and business studies program to Simon Fraser University's Surrey campus this fall.

In the only program of its kind in Canada, mature students have the opportunity to acquire a bachelor of general studies degree in three years while continuing to work full-time.

Initially, Harbour Centre was the only campus offering the program, but as demand increased, it was extended to Kitimat, Maple Ridge and now Surrey. Director Ruth Price says the program is a way for people to get a university degree without giving up their employment to go back to school.

Colleen McFadden, manager of administration for the Telecommunications Workers' Union, can attest to this. She pursued the program to fulfill her lifelong dream of earning a degree and got a promotion in the process.

“I wasn't going anywhere,” she says. “The employers were looking for some education and being enrolled in the program demonstrated that I was willing to do that.”
