New professorship established

Managing change and innovation is a must for all companies today, whether they are old economy or new economy.

To focus research and teaching attention on these issues, SFU business and Weyerhaeuser Co. Ltd. recently partnered to establish the Weyerhaeuser professorship in change management at SFU.
Tom Lawrence, an outstanding scholar in organizational management will hold the professorship.

Lawrence joins SFU business from the University of Victoria, where he taught organizational collaboration and change. He holds a PhD in organizational analysis from the University of Alberta and has received many awards for his teaching and research. Among those are a 2001 Ascendant Scholar award from the Western Academy of Management and a 2000 excellence in teaching award from the University of Victoria.

“As the Weyerhaeuser professor, my aim is to develop a longterm research program around organizational change and learning,” says Lawrence, “with a focus on examining the social dynamics of organizational learning - the power and politics that occur as organizations try to learn and innovate.”
