Cathy Daminato (left) has been selected as SFU's latest VP-advancement. She takes up her appointment July 28, replacing vice-president Warren Gill.

Daminato has more than 15 years' experience in fundraising in B.C., including senior advancement positions at the Simon Fraser health region and BCIT. She was most recently executive director of the Royal Columbian hospital foundation where, during her tenure, general donations increased 300 per cent and endowment and capital funds increased by 200 per cent.

Daminato will work with senior administrators and the SFU board of governors to set fundraising strategy and will lead the SFU advancement team to raise university fundraising to a new level.

Gill has been appointed to the new position of VP-university relations for a 12-month period beginning July 1. A search for a permanent appointee will occur during the next year.

The new position, recommended by a recent external review, reports to the president and is a member of the senior administration.

Gill will have management responsibility for media and public relations, government relations, alumni relations, ceremonies and events and the President's Club. He will also bring message continuity to the communications activities currently decentralized across the university.

The position also entails overall management responsibility for Harbour Centre campus and for the Morris Wosk centre for dialogue.
