As more SFU professors embrace retirement, the number of faculty appointments continues to increase. Here are some recent appointments during the summer semester.



Dov Fischer
Dov Fischer has been appointed a tenure track assistant professor in the faculty of business administration. Fischer, who recently earned his PhD from the University of Colorado, Boulder, also holds a BSc in accounting from Yeshiva University, New York. Before entering the PhD program, Fischer worked as an accountant and financial advisor.


Valentine Kabanets
Valentine Kabanets has been appointed a tenure track assistant professor in the school of computing science. Most recently a post-doctoral fellow and instructor at the University of California, San Diego, Kabanets earned his MSc at SFU and a PhD at the University of Toronto. Kabanet's research focuses on computational complexity, a core area of theoretical computer science.


Laura Marks
Laura Marks joins the school for the contemporary arts as an associate professor with tenure and will hold the Dena Wosk endowed professorship in art and culture studies. Marks, who has a PhD and an MA in in visual and cultural studies from the University of Rochester, was most recently an associate professor at Carlton University.


Eugene McCann
Eugene McCann has been awarded a tenure track position as assistant professor in the department of geography, where he will teach urban geography. McCann, who holds a PhD in geography from the University of Kentucky, was most recently an assistant professor of urban geography at Ohio State University.


Kirsten McAllister
Kirsten McAllister, who joins the school of communication as a tenure track assistant professor, has worked as a limited term assistant professor at the University of Windsor and, in 2000-2002, held a post-doctoral appointment in cultural studies at the institute for cultural research at Lancaster University. McAllister holds a MASc in communication from SFU and a PhD in sociology from Carleton University.


Denise Oleksijczuk
Denise Oleksijczuk has been awarded a tenure track position as assistant professor in art and culture studies with the school for the contemporary arts. She holds a PhD in art history from the University of British Columbia and a MA in art history from the University of Toronto. Oleksijcuk most recently held a Paul Mellon post-doctoral fellowship at London's Paul Mellon centre for studies in British art and has also been a sessional instructor at SFU.


Christophe Perignon
Christophe Perignon joins the faculty of business administraton as an assistant professor without tenure. A post-doctoral fellow at Anderson School, University of California at Los Angeles, he holds a PhD, MA and BA from the University of Geneva, Switzerland.


Amir Rubin
Amir Rubin has been appointed an instructor in the faculty of business administration. He is currently a PhD candidate in finance at the University of British Columbia and holds a MA and BA from Hebrew University in Israel. His research interests focus on corporate finance and investments and he has also worked in industry as an economist. On completion of his PhD he will be appointed as a tenure track assistant professor.
