SFU's new external relations website, offers “something for everyone,” says communications manager and web strategist Annemarie Tempelman-Kluit.

The site, launched in February, serves as a link between SFU and the larger community, and includes detailed information about university advancement (fundraising and alumni), media and public relations, and government relations. It also features a centralized campus events page that can be updated by faculty and staff with a current SFU computing account.

Observes Tempelman-Kluit: “What makes this site unique is that it uses a content managment system developed in Vancouver called WX Maestro that allows approved users to easily go in and update their particular pages without having to call a webmaster and wait for the changes to be made. It gives people greater control over their content, and gets them excited about the power of the web. It makes for a more dynamic and responsive site, very well-organized and user-friendly.”

The new site also provides a link that resembles the SFU home page. “We incorporated the look and feel of the SFU main page in an effort to provide a cohesive presence,” says Tempelman-Kluit.

David Mitchell, VP-external relations says the new site is intended to serve as “a very useful point of first contact that will save people a lot of time. For example, someone who is considering establishing a student bursary can find all the relevant background and contact information on-line.

“Community groups can arrange SFU speakers. Media on deadline can find a knowledgeable spokesperson quickly in our directory of experts. And our events page is available to anyone who wants to find out what's happening right now at either campus.”
