Five awarded honorary degrees

SFU will honour five individuals for their outstanding contributions to B.C. and Canada during this month's convocation ceremonies.
At 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, Vancouver Board of Trade chair Carole Taylor will receive an honorary degree in recognition of her skills as a leader and conciliator, and her commitment to bringing government and business together to serve community interests. On Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., honorary degrees will be conferred onto Dr. Victor Ling, vice-president of research at the B.C. Cancer Agency and co-director of the Genome Sequence Centre, and Shirley Tilghman, president of Princeton University, and founding member of the national Advisory Council of the Human Genome project.
On the morning of Friday, Oct. 4, Tong Kooi Ong, one of SFU's most accomplished alumni in the fields of finance, banking and real estate development, will join Angus Reid, former chair and CEO of Ipsos-Reid Inc. and current president of Angus Reid Strategies, on the podium.
Chancellor Milton Wong will confer the honorary degrees immediately following the graduand procession. All recipients will have an opportunity to address the assembly.
