Yildiz Atasoy
Yildiz Atasoy has been appointed to a tenure-track position of assistant professor of political sociology in the department of sociology/anthropology. She holds a MSc from the Middle East Technical University of Turkey and a PhD from the University of Toronto. Atasoy comes to SFU from the University of Michigan-Flint where she was a visiting assistant professor. Rated as an exceptional young scholar, her research specializes in Islamic politics, particularly in relation to global political trends and ethnicity.

Dong Kim
Dong Kim has been appointed with tenure to the position of associate professor in the school of engineering science.
A PhD graduate of the University of Southern California, Kim was most recently a tenured associate professor and chair of the department of electrical and computer engineering with the University of Seoul in Korea. Kim is an expert in telecommunications and has been rated as an outstanding teacher and world class researcher.

Marie Rekkas
Marie Rekkas joins the economics department as a tenure track assistant professor. A recent PhD from the University of Toronto, Rekkas has done theoretical and applied research in econometrics and will teach in this field. Other research and teaching interests include industrial organization, political economy, and health economics.

Sophie McCall
Sophie McCall has been appointed to the tenure-track position of assistant professor in the English department. She defended her PhD thesis in English at York University over the summer, where she was a teaching assistant. McCall's research expertise focuses on First Nations literature. The title of her recent thesis is: Where is the voice coming from?: Transformations in told-to narrative since 1969.

Panayiotis Pappas
Panayiotis Pappas has been appointed to the tenure track position of assistant professor in the department of linguistics where, in addition to teaching linguistics, he will develop a Greek language program in cooperation with the chair in Hellenic studies. Pappas holds a PhD in linguistics from Ohio State University and comes to SFU from Texas A & M University where he was a visiting professor.

Colette Colligan
Colette Colligan, a PhD candidate from Queen's University, has been appointed to the position of instructor in the department of English. She is currently working on her PhD, entitled The Empire did not improve morals: English Imperial Pornography in Nineteenth Century Visual and Literary Culture. Colligan, most recently a teaching fellow at Queen's, is the author of several peer-reviewed articles. At SFU, she will teach 19th century British literature.

Anita Gantner
Anita Gantner has been appointed to the position of instructor in the department of economics. She comes to SFU from the University of California at Santa Barbara where she has been completing her PhD. Gantner specializes in microeconomic theory and experimental economics. She will teach courses in both areas and serve on the steering committee for the department's proposed centre for research on adaptive behaviour in economics.
