Climate change: human or nature causes?
The CLOUD Experiment at CERN — the fifth lecture in a series hosted by eight SFU faculty of science departments — will explore whether human-driven or naturally occurring-atmospheric changes are triggering climate change. Jasper Kirby, an experimental particle physicist at CERN in Switzerland, will first weigh evidence that 90 per cent of the observed warming during the last century is attributable to human causes. He’ll then compare the weight of that evidence against historical research indicating climate shifts occur on 100-year time scales due to solar variability, linked to changes in cosmic ray intensity. Kirby will deliver his lecture Wed., March 23, 12:30 p.m., at the IRMACS Centre, ASB10905 at the SFU Burnaby campus. The lecture will be webcast and eventually archived.
