The reigning world champion SFU Pipe Band will join the New Westminster Police Pipe Band for a Celtic evening of entertainment entitled Pipe Up at the Massey Theatre, New Westminster on Thursday, June 25 at 7:30 pm.

The fundraising event will assist both bands to compete in this year’s World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Partial proceeds will go to the New Westminster Police “Cops for Cancer” campaign. Cancer has hit the SFU Pipe Band family very hard this year, as several band members recently lost family members to the disease.

“It is a privilege for the SFU Pipe Band to support Cops for Cancer – an extremely worthwhile charity. We hope that by lending our support it will encourage many to do likewise,” says Jack Lee, SFU Pipe Band Pipe Sergeant.

Tickets are $22.50 for adults, $17.50 for students and seniors, and all seating is reserved.

SFU’s pipe band is busy gearing up for the annual trip to Scotland to defend their title. The famed group won its fifth world championship last year.

The World Pipe Band Championships are Scotland’s largest annual musical and cultural event with an expected 40,000 visitors, 8,000 pipers and drummers and 200 bands from 16 different countries this year.
