An analysis of this year’s disastrous Fraser River sockeye returns by a think tank of scientists will be released Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Teck Gallery at Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings.
John Reynolds, SFU’s Tom Buell chair in salmon conservation and Mark Angelo of the Pacific Fisheries Resource Conservation Council will introduce a consensus report, following two days of discussion, on the continuing decline of Fraser River sockeye. It will include recommendations on where researchers should be looking for answers.
Says Reynolds, "Everyone has a theory about the collapse, and we'll be considering which ideas are most plausible, and how we can use this information to strengthen the management and recovery of these stocks."
