Correspondence, patent applications, descriptions of inventions and technologies and working papers.
The record is used to apply for patents and to administer the application process on behalf of SFU faculty. When a faculty member's research results in a new invention or product (technical device, software or process) the University/Industry Liaison Office may assist that faculty member in applying for a patent. Canadian, American, Japanese and European patents may be considered. The University assists in the process by providing funding, administrative support and technical and market expertise. Financial benefits of patenting SFU inventions lie in licensing out the new technologies to private companies, although other benefits accrue from community involvement.
The records are arranged chronologically under the date the file was initiated and include both approved and rejected patent applications.
