OTHER OTHERS presents a selection of key
sculptures that Roland Brener created in the last decade of his life.
Brener taught at the University of Victoria from 1973 to 1999.
During those years he explored through his art the taxonomy of transformative objects,
the biological implications of technologies and, more recently, the morphology of potential life forms.
Those forms are the sculptures that constitute OTHER OTHERS.
Roland Brener represented Canada at Chicago in 1984,
Sao Paulo in 1987 and Venice in 1988; he was part of the
Vancouver Art Gallery's Mise En Scene show in 1982 and the landmark
Space Invaders exhibition that toured Canada in the mid-1980s.
This is the first Vancouver exhibition of Brener's work since Glyptomania in 2002.
Saturday September 9 at 3pm: Greg Snider and Bill Jeffries present short talks on Roland Brener's life and work, followed by a reception.
Lunchtime talks and tour of the exhibition:
September 12 at 12:05
September 13 at 12:35
September 27 at 12:35
