SFUBC Fall 2009 - SFU/UBC Inter-Club Tourney -

Prizes

  • 1st Place Team- $200 Cash Prize ($100 to team, $100 to its associated club)
  • Update: 1st Place Team will also recieve Envy Tickets sponsored by Envy
  • 2nd Place Team- $100 Cash Prize ($50 to team, $50 to its associated club)
  • Update:We will no long have consolation matches as round robin itself will give each player the opportunity to play their moneys’ worth.
  • 10 grips, 10 strings, 5 towels, 5 racquets, 3 gym bags, 5x$20 SE certificates, 2x$50 SE certificates
Tournament Schedule
  • Friday, November 6, 2009
    • Show up 6:00PM for Team Registration
    • 6:30PM - 10:00PM
  • Saturday, November 7, 2009
    • Show up 10:00PM for Team Registration
    • 10:30AM - 3:00PM Round Robin Continuation
    • 3:30PM - End Semi-finals + Finals
Tournament Format
  • Teams will play five matches in each round: Men’s singles, Ladies’ Singles, Men’s Double, Ladies Double, and Mix Double (Best out 3 out of 5 matches). The sequence of play will be determined prior to the start of the tournament.
  • Update: The order that will be played: Mixed Doubles, Men's Single, Women's Doubles, Men's Doubles, Women's Singles
  • All matches will be played best 2 out of 3 to 21 rally points.
  • Update: **ALL 5 Matches will be played in each round robin team vs.
  • Update: Due to complaints, Rules regarding BC ranked players have been waived and each player is allowed a maximum of two events.
  • Update: Prior to each round robin match, each team should submit its player assignments for all the events. These will be given to you.
  • Teams will start with small groups of round robin. The top 2 teams of each round robin pool will play in the semi-finals. Finals will be played by the winning team of each semi-final matches.
  • The Laws of Badminton govern all plays.
  • All players must sign a waiver of liability prior to the start of the tournament.
  • Scoring System:
    • Winning team will score 2 points each time
    • Losing team scores 0 points.
    • Consequently in each pool the two teams with the highest overall scores move to semi finals. With First place of one pool playing the second place of the other pool.
  • Update: Only Tournament birdies, Mavis 350s are permitted. Players may ask for additional birdies if the birdy is damaged beyond playable state.

  • Registration ends October 30, 2009
  • Tournament Entry fee PER TEAM $60

Though the minimum number of players can be 4 (2 male, 2 female), it is optional to have a maximum of 6 players, which can allow substitution due to fatigue or injury.

Mission Statement

- The Mission of the SFU Badminton Club is to promote the sport of badminton by providing an environment where students, staff, and alumni of the SFU community who share an interest in playing badminton can meet and play

- The club shall also encourage fair play, good court etiquette, and improvement of members’ health, fitness and badminton skills.

Registering with SFUBC

All Sport Club membership registration must be done through the Recreation Office (CGC 108). MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR GREEN GYM TAG ALREADY!!

The Recreation Office is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm.

Only those Club Members who have registered for the Club through the Rec Office are eligible to participate in Club activities.

The only people eligible to be members in SFU Sport Clubs are currently registered Students, Staff, Faculty or Alumni. Students who are admitted to SFU but not currently enrolled in classes in a given semester are not eligible to be a Sport Club member.
