Study in French at one of the most renowned faculties of education in Canada with internationally recognized faculty members and researchers.

Programs in line with your reality

The programs delivered in French at SFU's Faculty of Education are designed for actors in education in French minority contexts.  The students are in small cohorts and the course schedules and delivery modes are flexible which allows students, in most of the programs, to study while continuing to work full-time.

The Graduate Diploma in Education, Master and Doctorate allow you to broaden the perspectives in your academic career or teaching.

Graduate Diploma in Education (GDE)

  • Duration: 2 years, 30 credits
  • Format: in-person or hybrid, depending on the program
  • Delivered in different locations in the province in collaboration with school districts
  • Themes: teaching and learning in the classroom, language and culture in the French classroom

Master of Education (MEd / MA)

  • Duration: 2 years, 35 credits
  • Format: on-campus or online program
  • Themes: plurilingualism, literacy, indigenous perspectives and interactions in the classroom
  • Open the door to new career horizons: management, administration, educational leadership and/or community

Master in Education in Educational Practice (MEd EP)

  • Duration: 1 year, 20 credits
    as it is designed for those who have already completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (30 credits)
  • Format: in-person or hybrid, depending on the program
  • Themes: broadening and deepening understandings of educational theory, research and practice introduced in the GDE
  • Open the door to new career horizons: management, administration, educational leadership and/or community

Doctoral Degree

PhD Doctor of Philosophy

  • Duration: 16 months + comprehensive exam and thesis
  • Format: courses and seminars in class during 4 semesters at one of the SFU campuses
  • Exam and thesis may be completed by distance
  • Leads to a variety of functions: university or college professor/researcher, public service executive, consultant, school manager in the education sector, etc.

Doctoral Degree

EdD Doctor of Education

  • Duration: 5 semesters (20 months) + comprehensive exam and thesis
  • Format: hybrid. Combination of online courses and in-person meetings each semester at one of the SFU campuses
  • Become a leader in the field of education, or other sectors of public or parapublic services.
