MATERIAL THAT WILL BE ON THE MIDTERM EXAM:

The midterm exam will cover material from weeks 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 (NOTE: you will not be tested on material from week 4 on the midterm exam). Become familiar with the names and appearance of physical structures you saw during insect dissections/examinations as well as techniques used to complete the lab. Pay special attention to the morphological structures and functions listed in your lab manual, and to any recurring terminology that arises in the manual.

  STRUCTURE OF THE MIDTERM EXAM:

The midterm exam will consist of 20-30 questions that will be set up along the lab bench-tops. Each student will start at a random question and be given 3 minutes to answer it, after which time, each student will get up and move to the next question. This will continue until students have had a chance to answer each question. An additional 10 minutes will be given for students to re-visit and try to anwer any question(s) they had trouble with. The questions will be designed as short answer questions that can easily be answered in much less than 3 minutes (we are trying to test your knowledge of lab material, not the speed with which you can answer questions).

MARKING SCHEME FOR THE MIDTERM EXAM:

Each question on the exam will be worth 1-10 marks. The midterm exam is worth 15% of your total mark for the course.
