Biological Sciences faculty interact with members of several other departments on campus, forming active research groups. These groups are supported by excellent research facilities provided by the university and department. Employment and research opportunities are posted for our Department.

Behavioural Ecology Research Group (BERG)
The Department of Biological Sciences has an active group of researchers working on aspects of evolutionary and behavioural ecology in a variety of organisms. Research spans behavioural, molecular, physiological and mathematical approaches.
Centre for Wildlife Ecology
The Centre for Wildlife Ecology is a collaboration between the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) and SFU. Its mission is to foster synergy between the mission-oriented research and management policies of CWS and the basic research agenda of the University.
Pest Management
A group of researchers in the Department focus on biological processes that involve pest organisms. Their research extends to management of pests in agricultural, forest and urban environments. Pest Management, was established at Simon Fraser University in 1967. The Department is recognized to be the first institution in North America to offer a comprehensive post-graduate degree program in pest management. (MPM)
Cell Biology
Research interests of the cell biology group in Biological Sciences includes cellular neuroscience, developmental biology and genetics, immunology, microbiology and lipid transport, in both plants and animals. There is close collaboration with faculty in the Departments of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and Kinesiology, and the group holds a weekly journal club .

Environmental Toxicology
Environmental toxicology is a new and rapidly developing field which is involved in an examination of the fate and impacts of pollutants on biological systems, including both humans and wildlife. Toxicology is a multidisciplinary science, and therefore collects and assimilates information from a variety of disciplines. Both basic and applied aspects of environmental toxicology are studied by a collection of faculty members and students in the Department of Biological Sciences and other departments at Simon Fraser University. Our research ranges from molecular and biochemical studies, through physiological and behavioral approaches, to comprehensive modeling and mathematical studies.
Organic Evolution
Biological Sciences at SFU has a burgeoning researchgroup in organic evolution. Research focuses on behavioural, genetic and molecular aspects of reproductive isolation, speciation and adaptive radiation; the evolution of social systems; and 'biodiversity', all within a strong phylogenetic/phylogeographic framework.

Environmental and Evolutionary Physiology
Faculty research interests in the broad area of physiology include reproductive biology, physiology and life-histories, sensory (visual) physiology, cell physiology and neurobiology, and pharmacology and toxicology.
