Setting Up the Photocopier as a Printer in Windows

Morgan Mamemi wrote instructions for  setting up Macs to print to the photocopiers (PDF Format). Everyone may want to consult the PDF for general advice. The instructions below are a draft only- suggestions are welcome!

BEFORE DOING ANYTHING, FIRST MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE SET UP A PRINTER ID & PASSWORD WITH THE RECEPTIONIST.

The photocopiers in the photocopier room (bizhub 501) require drivers downloaded from Konica Minolta directly-

Download the driver appropriate for your computer- for our Windows XP we downloaded the Windows NT PCL driver (ver. 2.1.0.0, ~45 MB).  It actually installed PCL & postscript (PS) drivers.

Before installing: on Windows XP computers with an attached USB printer- Turn off or unplug the local printer so the Minolta setup program will not crash.

Find the folder it downloaded to,  right click it to extract all files, then open the folder, go into the Driver folder and double click the Setup program.

Click on "Specify the Printer" and then click on on "Refer to" to open

In the "Manual Selection" window that opens paste in sscb8249-ptr.biol.sfu.ca to the IP address/IP hostname box-   this is the photocopier next to the mailboxes.

In the "Printers and Faxes" window right click  on the PS printer & Choose properties.

Under the Configure Tab, Choose Hard Disk "Installed", ID&Print "Enable", Secure Print Only "On"

User Authentication "On (Device)", and Account Track "Enable".  Apply & Ok.

Again, right click the Printer and choose "Preferences".  Make sure the Output method is "Secure Print".  Click on "Authentication/Account Track" (middle Right side)

and put your copier username and password in under Department Name.  Click okay.

RELEASING PRINT JOB

1. Log in to copier using your copying ID & PW.

2. Just below the screen, locate the chunky black button that says "User Box".

3. Click Use Document on screen ...

4. Select the "System User Box" tab.

5. Select "Secure Print User Box".

6. Hit OK.

7. Enter ID & PW.

8. Select job & hit PRINT.

9. Now hit START & your document should print. :)

Now you may be sending too many jobs to the printer & wish to delete some of them. We don't want to be stuffing too many documents in our user boxes. Follow the steps below to manage your documents.

MANAGE DOCUMENTS

1. Under USER BOX (the chunky black button below screen), select "File Document".

2. Choose the "System User Box" tab.

3. Select "Secure Print User Box" and hit OK.

4. Punch in ID & PW.

5. Select Documents which you wish to delete or edit.

For any questions, see receptionist.
