I am broadly interested in land-sea interactions and cross-ecosystem management. Specifically I study Caribbean coral reefs and the impact of various land use and associated sediment on the downstream reefs in the field at a regional scale. Coral reef ecosystems have declined tremendously throughout the world and marine protected areas may not afford sufficient protection from external stressors.

I am using a combination of meta-analytical techniques, field measurements and GIS-based models to assess changes in sedimentation yields under varying levels of development and associated impact on coral communities. Understanding the impacts of land-based stressors on coral reef ecosystems is a crucial first step towards better integrated coastal zone management.
