Carl Lowenberger talks to Global TV about kissing bugs
Carl Lowenberger and his colleague Dr. María Magdalena Ramírez spoke to Global TV on Tuesday about kissing bugs and the parasite they transmit to humans. The parasite, Trypansoma cruzi causes the serious and deadly Chagas disease. Carl and Maleni are part of an international research team that sequenced and annotated the genome of the vector, Rhodnius prolixus and hope that new insights into insect specific pathways will curb its impact on parasite transmission.
