North American rangeland birds have shown more persistent and widespread declines than other avian groups. Nancy Mahony (CWS) recently initiated a project to assess how grazing induced changes to grassland habitat influence the distribution and demography of grassland birds in the Chilcotin, B.C. As part of this project we are investigating how, and why, grassland community composition influences the productivity and survival of two grassland songbirds, Vesper sparrow and the Western Meadowlark.
