Presidential Search Community Consultation

Professor Andrew Petter’s second term as President ends on August 31, 2020, and SFU is currently undertaking a process to select its next President.

From March 15 – April 14, the Presidential Search Committee engaged the campus community in a robust consultation to gather input to help shape the position description that will be made available to potential applicants.

During the consultation the Presidential Search Committee asked to hear what experience, leadership and personal qualities the campus community felt are important for the Search Committee to look for in recruiting our next President. We also asked to hear what opportunities and challenges you think the next President will face.

Both in person and online opportunities were provided during consultation, including:

1. An online survey

2. A dedicated email address for written submissions

3. Three drop-in events
    -Surrey Campus – March 25, 3-6pm, Mezzanine
-Vancouver Campus – March 27, 3-6pm, Harbour Centre Concourse
-Burnaby Campus – March 28, 11:30am-2:30pm, Saywell Hall Atrium

4. An all campus forum on April 3, held from 10-11:30am
   -Burnaby Campus – Halpern 126
-Vancouver Campus – Joseph & Rosalie Segal Centre 1400-1430
   -Surrey Campus – SUR5380

The all campus forum was also livestreamed and archived here for later viewing.

The position description will be shared later this spring.

The process was broadly advertised through email, e-newsletters, digital screens, paid advertisements, social media, and posters.
