Hours: 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (7 hours per day with 1/2 hour lunch)
Salary: $17.00 per hour + 4% in lieu of vacation pay
The Bill Reid Centre is offering a 15-week paid position for a candidate who is a full-time student obtaining a degree in museum studies, library or archival studies, Indigenous art history, anthropology, archaeology, First Nations studies, and/or a related discipline. This position is designed to provide work experience in digital collections management and digital stewardship of cultural heritage at Canada’s most engaged university.
The successful candidate will be a motivated, organized, self-starter with strong communication skills, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Duties include: classifying and physically organizing photographic slides and negatives; transcription of descriptive metadata; assisting with storage of physical and digital images; creating workflows for the digitization of visual resources and making them accessible through the SFU Library; conducting image based research; and providing input toward digital and in-person exhibits, and programs.
We are seeking an individual who enjoys working in a quiet research and task oriented environment. Required skills include: strong organizational, data entry, and data management skills; attention to detail; experience with digital museum, archive or gallery collections; knowledge of Indigenous art history and cultural heritage, excellent oral and written communication; interpersonal skills; research skills; and effective problem-solving skills.

This position will be for up to 15 weeks, with a rate of $17 per hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation pay. This position may be funded in part through Heritage Canada’s Young Canada Works summer job program, and therefore applicants need to meet specific eligibility requirements including: are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible); are legally entitled to work in Canada; will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment; have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.
