Canvas Bulletin no. 1
Are you using or planning to use SFU's new Canvas learning management system (LMS) for your courses? This series of bulletins will help you make a smooth transition to the new platform.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
- The rollout of Canvas is going very well; a third of all LMS-based courses at SFU (with 116 instructors and more than 5,300 students) are using Canvas this semester.
- The Teaching and Learning Centre is conducting orientation workshops and drop-in sessions for instructors on all three campuses throughout the summer (see the dates at http://bit.ly/UHvGH6).
- The fall semester will be the last semester for course delivery in WebCT.
HOW SHOULD YOU PREPARE FOR CANVAS?
Canvas offers great opportunities for enhancing your courses. Give yourself time to become familiar with its capabilities. Here's how to get started:
- Visit http://www.sfu.ca/canvas for information, resources and links to people who can help you set up your course in Canvas.
- Attend an orientation workshop or drop-in session (see the dates at http://bit.ly/UHvGH6).
- Contact a Learn Tech specialist in the Teaching and Learning Centre to arrange a one-on-one consultation (learntech@sfu.ca or 778.782.9607).
AN IMPORTANT NOTE
All WebCT content has been converted for use in Canvas. However, as in any conversion process, there may be issues when you begin working with your content in Canvas. We urge you to check your content sooner rather than later to avoid a last-minute scramble. Instructions on how to set up your course and import content are available at http://www.sfu.ca/canvas. You can also get one-on-one help from the Learn Tech team in the Teaching and Learning Centre. For details, contact the team at learntech@sfu.ca or 778.782.9607.
