How do I create a sandbox for testing?

A sandbox is a course shell that can be used for testing and learning purposes. It doesn't contain students and is not publicly visible.

Step 1. Log in to Canvas. The Canvas home page will look something like this:

Step 2. On the right side of the page, you will see a button labelled "Start a New Course." Click on this button to begin the process of creating a course or sandbox.

Step 3. When you click the "Start a New Course" button, you'll see a list of courses in which you are a teacher, along with some options. In the example below, the only option available is to create a sandbox. Check the box beside "Sandbox" and click on the "Create Courses" button (shown as the "Submitting" button below).

Step 4. Another screen indicating that course creation may take up to five minutes will appear (see the image below). To check whether the course has been created, click on "Course List" to see if "Sandbox" is listed.

Step 5: The "Course List" screen will show you all courses in which you are enrolled (in this case as a teacher). In the example below, you can see "Sandbox - lw1081." Click on this link to get to your new course shell.
