How do I set up assignments and weight grades?
In Canvas, the gradebook corresponds to assignment groups. Follow these steps to set up your gradebook. (For a comprehensive overview of how Gradebook works in Canvas, take a look at Utah State University's guide.)
Step 1. Click on the "Assignments" tab within your course navigation menu.
Step 2. Click on "Add assignment group" for each grade-weighted category, as shown in the screenshot below. For example, you may have four assignment groups if your syllabus looks like the one below:
- Final: 40%
- Midterm:20%
- Homework: 15%
- Assignment: 25%
Step 3. Make sure that the weightings for all categories add up to 100%.
Step 4: You can add new assignments under each category, as shown in the screenshot below.
