Need for Mental Health and Addiction Services in BC

In 2006, CARMHA was asked by the BC Ministry of Health Services – Health Authorities Division to replicate and extend needs estimation work conducted in Australia by Gavin Andrews and colleagues. This initial phase of work examined three groups of disorders: Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, and Neuropsychiatric Disorders. CARMHA combined evidence from the academic literature with information provided by the members of expert working groups to create service pathways that demonstrated service configurations estimated to meet the current needs for each of the three disorder groups.  This information was combined with epidemiological estimates of cases to determine overall service volumes and resource requirements.
