INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

The SFU Centre for Disability Independence Research and Education functions to develop knowledge and products that will benefit people with physical disabilities. A key innovative aspect of the CDIRE is the genuinely participatory roles that individuals who have a physical disability can play.

The goals of the Centre are to

  • create and nurture close working relationships between persons with physical disabilities and appropriate researchers
  • transfer direct knowledge
  • ensure feedback
  • stimulate novel ideas, and
  • enhance the efficacy of the research.

As a participant, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team of researchers with broad resources and knowledge. You will help with the development of new therapies, assistive devices, and knowledge which could directly benefit your life as well as the lives of many others.

Please take the time to review the various ongoing projects.  If you see a project for which you could volunteer, please contact the investigators directly.

If you have a disability or an unmet need that is not addressed by a current project, email us at cdire@sfu.ca and we will contact researchers who may be able to help you.

We appreciate your interest in CDIRE and its objectives.
