Learning and Teaching Technology

Biography

I am an Instructional Designer in the Learning and Teaching Division of CEE. Like many Instructional Designers, I stumbled into the world of education technology and learning design by accident. At a time when educational technologists and instructional designer positions were not commonplace, my graphic design, web production were useful in supporting face-to-face teaching and creating blended/online learning experiences.

Since 2001 I’ve worked on hundreds of online courses ranging from e-learning, workshops, staff/faculty onboarding, student community sites to accredited academic courses covering a wide range of topics.

After I completed the UBC MET program, I was able to combine my newly acquired knowledge of online adult learning theories and pedagogical strategies, with my fluency in a number of educational technologies to find the best possible solutions for course design projects.

Through my work, I aim to using evidence-based strategies that align to the way people learn, and make learning accessible and inclusive for all learners.

One thing that motivates and keeps me interested in this field is that it’s always changing. Not only is educational technology continuously changing, and research on learning sciences growing, but as we witnessed, the global events, such as the pandemic have impacted this field. It’s a changing and exciting time. By far the most motivating and most valuable for me is that I’ve learned so much from the many colleagues and faculty I’ve worked with.
