   Chancellor's Picture

The Chancellor is elected for a three-year term and is eligible for re-election, not holding the office for more than six consecutive years. The Chancellor is a member of the University's Senate and Board of Governors and is not an employee of the University. The official duties of the Chancellor include conferring of degrees at convocation.

SFU's current Chancellor, Dr. Brandt C. Louie, was elected in April 2005 and was installed at the Fall Convocation ceremony at 9:45 am on Thursday October 6, 2005.

Dr. Brandt C. Louie is Chairman and CEO of H.Y. Louie and Chairman of the Board of London Drugs Limited. He has been a member of SFU's board of governors for the past eight years since 2000 and served as board chair from January 2002 -  August 2005.

Born in Vancouver, Louie received his bachelor of commerce from UBC and became a chartered accountant three years later. He serves on several boards of companies and non-profit organizations, including the Royal Bank of Canada, the Duke University Medical Centre and the Neuroscience Canada and the Gairdner Foundations. Louie personally leads the London Drugs' Charity Committee which oversees the company's corporate contributions to health and wellness organizations, medical research, education and the arts.

The chancellor serves as chair of convocation, a member of senate and the board of governors and confers all degrees. The chancellor often represents the university within the larger community and is one of the university's chief ambassadors.
