The Gates group is the research group of Professor Byron D. Gates, a faculty member of the Department of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University and Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Surface Chemistry. This research group is composed of 6 graduate students, 2 postdoctoral research fellows, 2 research assistants, and 8 undergraduate students with a wide range of research projects in the fields of surface chemistry and inorganic materials chemistry. These projects typically focus on the identification and control of chemical composition, surface reactivity, and nature of defects in nanostructures. We primarily approach these challenges through solution phase chemistry and new forms of nanolithography, and perform our analysis by the application of advanced spectroscopic and microscopic techniques.
