What is community-engaged research?

Traditionally, research involving community organizations has had limited success because end users are not involved from the beginning of the process. If research is conducted without proper input from the community, the findings may not fit into reality or address users’ problems adequately. This limits the ability to implement findings to real-world situations.

In community-engaged research, researchers work collaboratively with community representatives throughout the research process. All members of the project team maintain communication and share knowledge until solutions are implemented. By working together, we are better equipped to create sustainable solutions and healthier communities.
