When communicating with students about their academic careers, use the same terminology employed in SFU’s Student Information System (SIS), which is based on Oracle’s PeopleSoft human resource management system.

Examples:

• term (not semester)
• unit (not credit, credit hour or unit hour)
• Student Information System (not goSFU)
• enroll/enrollment* (not register/registration)

*Note: This American spelling for enroll/enrollment is an exception to the Canadian Press Stylebook, which uses the Canadian spellings enrol (not enroll), enrolled, enrolling, enrolment. Both are acceptable in other, external communications, according to the Canadian Oxford Dictionary.
