FAQs
What is the SFU Content Management System, and how would it benefit the SFU Community?
The initial goal of the implementation of a CMS is to help SFU's official web presence to be more contemporary, engaging, and professional. In the longer term, we expect that CQ will be used for many web content authoring purposes at SFU.
A CMS is used to create, edit, manage, search, and publish various types of content on a web page. Examples include text, images, and digital media. Creating and editing a web page in the CMS is very much like creating a document on your desktop.
Communiqué (CQ) will allow authors of varying degrees of technical knowledge to easily manage their SFU web presence.
Some notable features include:
- Flexible editing options for text: In-place editing, rich text edit (in dialogue box), source edit (HTML)
- Drag and drop to build page layout or add content in containers called components
- SFU common look and feel page templates
- Digital Asset Manager (for images, PDFs and other files to be posted online)
- Ability to reference content from another page or site
- Ability to create blogs and allow visitor comments
Options for advanced authors and site administrators include advanced interactive content editing, as well as the ability to manage site permission levels.
When will the SFU CMS be available?
The CMS is currently in phased launch starting with the web presence of several 'early adopter' departments in 2011, and gradually expanding to other interested SFU departments in the next several years.
Will the system be available to all staff, faculty and students?
Currently, CQ is only available for departmental web presences. The long term goal of the ongoing CMS implementation project is to extend the availability of the system to all SFU staff, faculty and students. Legacy web publishing is available for these groups outside the current scope of the CQ project.
